About the Role
The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of Human Resources Management (OHRM) provides personnel services, staff development, labor relations, diversity and access, and employee benefits to staff in various program areas within the Education Department. Situated within OHRM, the Training Unit connects employees with learning opportunities to foster the Department’s dedication to education for all. Developing and delivering instruction both online and in-person, we strive to meet the professional development needs of all SED employees across the State. Serving as technical support and guidance to the Statewide Learning Management System (SLMS), we connect employees with their mandated training as well as a host of other learning opportunities.

Internship Title: Training Unit Administrative Assistant (Intern)
Days/Hours Per Week: Hours flexible other than Thursdays required
Length of Internship: 320 hours
Intern Responsibilities
- Process New Employee Orientation documents
- Track submission of training completion using Microsoft Forms and Excel.
- Prepare completion upload documents using Excel.
- Communicate via email with employees regarding upcoming/passed deadlines.
- Support annual review of training guides and courses
- Review content to ensure links, training files, and interactive elements are properly functioning.
- Review course catalog, descriptions, and details for consistency and accuracy.
- Review and update training slide decks for accessibility, formatting issues, necessary updates.
- Process applications for scholarship program
- Review applications for completeness.
- Prepare and file for committee review.
- Prepare monthly slide deck for tv screen in Reception.
- Utilize Microsoft Forms to create surveys for training course evaluation.
- Draft communication such as training announcements.
- Review data and information to draft annual training statistics summary and report.
Required Skills
- Strong computer skills and experience working with Microsoft products such as: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Forms, Outlook email, and SharePoint.
- Excellent attention to detail and communication skills (written and verbal)
- Ability to follow detailed instruction and manage multiple tasks and priorities
Technology Requirements: Desktop, Microsoft Office applications (specifically Microsoft Forms, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook email)
