Environmental Conservation Police Officers (ECOs) enforce state environmental laws. They respond to reports about pollution, illegal dumping, and wildlife violations. The public can help the DEC identify and respond to environmental problems by contacting ECOs with the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC).

If you think you see an environmental violation, write or record the “who, what, where, when and how” of suspected violations, and then contact DEC. This will allow us to promptly respond to your complaint.

Call the DEC 24-hour telephone hotline to turn in poachers and polluters toll free at 1-844-DEC-ECOS (1-844-332-3267). Callers may request to file a complaint anonymously.
