The Department of State offers licenses for many professional occupations. Licenses must be renewed and updated to stay active.
You can update and renew certain licenses online, including Real Estate, Notary Public and Appearance Enhancement licenses. Other professional licenses must be renewed and updated by mail. Find your license for instructions on how to renew or update it.

Online Applications
Use New York Business Express (NYBE) to renew or update eligible professional licenses online. For more information about how to renew or update your professional license, please visit the Department of State's website.
Mail-In Applications
Refer to this step by step process on how to update your professional license:
- Download or request a Change Notice form
- Fill out the form
- Return to the Division of Licensing Services with corresponding fee
- You will receive a new license in 4-6 weeks
*Real Estate and Appearance Enhancement Professional licenses can be updated online by logging into your account, updating the information and submitting. You will receive a new license within 4-6 weeks.

- Receive a renewal form in the mail 90 days prior to the expiration date
- Fill out the form
- Mail the form back with the appropriate fee
*Real Estate, Notary Public, and Appearance Enhancement Professional licensees will receive a post-card with instructions to renew their licenses online approximately 90 days prior to the expiration date.
