Learn about the different types of campsites and lodging available at New York State Parks and DEC campgrounds.

Campsites

New York State Parks and DEC campgrounds offer campsites for tents, trailers, and RVs.

• Most campsites include a picnic table, fire ring, access to drinking water, and nearby restrooms. Some sites also offer:
  • Electric hookups
  • Tent platforms
  • Waterfront access
  • Accessible features
• Campground amenities vary by location and may also include dump stations.
• Some DEC-managed lands allow backcountry or primitive camping, including in the Adirondacks and Catskills. Check primitive camping rules before your visit.

Cabins

Cabins generally sleep between 2 and 8 people. Amenities vary by location and may include:

• Beds or cots
• Tables and chairs
• Refrigerators
• Stoves
• Electricity
• Bathrooms

Cottages

Cottages generally sleep between 2 and 10 people and often include:

• Bedrooms
• Kitchen
• Bathroom
• Living area

Who can reserve a campsite?

• An adult at least 18 years of age (21 at some parks) must be the permit holder and occupy the site for the full permit period.
• New York State campgrounds are available to anyone, but out of state patrons have an additional fee.

Do I have to make a reservation?

Reservations are recommended and can be made online or by phone (1-800-456-2267). Some campgrounds may accept walk-in campsite reservations, depending on availability.

How far in advance do I need to make a reservation?

Reservations can be made up to 9 months in advance.

What are the available amenities?

Most sites have a picnic table, fire pit or ring and nearby restrooms and some include amenities such as electric, water and sewer hook-up, and platforms. For specific details contact the park directly.

Can I bring pets?

Most campgrounds allow pets, however it is best to check the specific park details prior to booking your reservation. If your campground allows pets please be respectful. At New York State Office of Parks, Recreation & Preservation facilities only 2 pets per site are permitted. Rabies certificate is required.

What can I bring?

• Firewood
  • Firewood can spread invasive insects and tree diseases.
    • Burn all firewood before leaving your campsite.
    • Buy firewood near your destination whenever possible.
    • Untreated firewood may not be transported more than 50 miles from its source.
    • Additional restrictions may apply.

• Alcohol
  • Alcohol is permitted at most campgrounds unless otherwise posted. Some parks have additional restrictions.

What if I need to cancel my reservation?

• You can cancel online or by calling ReserveAmerica at 1-800-456-2267.
• If you need to cancel on your arrival date, contact the campground directly.
• Cancellation fees vary depending on how close to your arrival date you cancel.

Reserve a Campsite

1. Sign in or create a ReserveAmerica account.
2. Search by campground name, location, and travel dates.
3. Select your campground and campsite.
4. Choose your arrival and departure dates.
5. Enter camper and vehicle information.
6. Complete payment.
7. Receive your reservation confirmation by email.

Before your stay, you may receive a reminder email allowing you to update information about campers, pets, and equipment.
