What is the Heating Equipment Repair or Replacement Benefit (HERR)?
The HERR Benefit helps income-eligible households repair or replace their primary heating equipment.
What does the benefit cover?
If you are eligible, the HERR Benefit can help you repair or replace your furnace, boiler, and other direct heating equipment necessary to keep your home's primary heating source working.
What are the HERR Benefit limits?
- Benefits are based on the actual cost of the repair or replacement, up to:
- $4,000 for repairs
- $8,000 for replacements
- Repairs and replacements must be approved by your HEAP Local District Contact before work begins. Payment is made directly to the approved vendor.
Eligibility
You must complete an eligibility interview, either in person or by phone.
To qualify, you must:
- Own and live in your home
- Be age 60 or older
- Meet HEAP income and resource requirements
- Complete an eligibility interview
