About the Role
The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of Human Resources Management (OHRM) provides personnel services, staff development, labor relations, diversity and access, and employee benefits to staff in various program areas within the Education Department. Staffing Services provides personnel and technical services to staff in all program areas within the Education Department. Staffing Services is comprised of human resources professionals and administrative staff who engage in recruitment activities, examination planning, classification work, and other key functions. Staffing Services also includes the List Unit which manages the Department’s decentralized eligible lists and provides Civil Service eligible lists for all appropriate titles to program areas for filling positions throughout the agency.

Internship Title: Reception Desk Office Assistant
Intern Responsibilities
- Answer phone and direct calls to appropriate person or department
- Check voicemails and forward to appropriate person as needed
- Greet and assist OHRM visitors
- Escort visitors to OHRM to/from security desks
- Maintain the filing and filing cabinets
- Handle Incoming/Outgoing Mail
- Maintain hr.reception mailbox
- Create Personal History Folders (PHF) for new employees
- Process name changes by updating folders/labels
- Keep reception area clean and organized
- Assist employees from other units within OHRM as needed
Required Skills
- Computer skills and experience working with Microsoft products such as: Excel, Word, Access, Outlook email, and SharePoint.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and communication skills (written and verbal).
- Ability to follow detailed instruction and manage multiple tasks and priorities.
Technology Requirements: Desktop, Microsoft Suite applications (Specifically Microsoft Excel, Word, Access for data entry and Outlook email.
Day/Hours Per Week: Hours flexible (can discuss at interview)
Length of Internship: 320 hours
