Watch: 2026 International Mother Language Day

On February 21, New York State celebrated International Mother Language Day!

On February 21, 1952, the people of Bangladesh fought for their right to speak Bangla, their mother language. Today, Bangla is one of over 800 mother languages spoken across New York State. We uplift and celebrate our state's cultural and linguistic diversity and invite you to share what your mother language means to you.
