Fight for $15

We're Raising the Minimum Wage to $15 for All New Yorkers

Raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour is one of the single-most progressive actions to help working families across this state. The 2016-2017 state budget includes this historic increase that will ultimately reach $15 an hour for all workers in all industries across the state.

No one who works a full-time job should be forced to live in poverty. A reasonable minimum wage is a necessity to improve the standard of living for workers, encourage fair and more efficient business practices, and ensure that the most vulnerable members of the workforce can contribute to the economy.

In his bold call to raise the minimum wage to $15, the Governor is continuing his fight to ensure fairness and opportunity for all hard-working New Yorkers. Our home care members, who struggle to support their families while caring for our state's most vulnerable citizens, and all of New York’s healthcare workers are very grateful to the Governor for championing their cause.

Raising wages for workers will allow them to provide a better life for themselves and their families and lead to an injection of more consumer spending in our local economies. It's good for workers, good for families, and good for our economy.

It’s time to raise up our communities, our state, and our nation with higher wages; it’s time to build a better economy that strengthens all working people and all families, not just the wealthy elite. Today’s announcement for fast food workers is an important win for working people. The next step has to be including retail and other workers. So, listen up Albany: now is the moment to do what is right for all working people.
