Advancing the Democracy Agenda
The electoral system is at the core of our democracy. To ensure New York elections remain fair and transparent, Governor Cuomo has proposed the Democracy Agenda.
The Democracy Agenda includes the strongest and most comprehensive set of reforms in the nation. It not only mandates disclosure in regard to digital political advertising but also safeguards state elections from outside influences.
The Agenda also proposes a series of initiatives aimed at modernizing New York's antiquated voting system and increasing voter participation - by streamlining voter registration and removing barriers that deter citizens from casting their vote on Election Day.
Restoring Confidence in Government Focusing on New Problems: Foreign Money & Digital Political Ads
"Social media has revolutionized our elections. While we respect the freedom of the internet, it cannot subvert the law. Foreign countries like Russia and big anonymous donors cannot jeopardize our democracy."
A VOTING SYSTEM FOR THE 21ST CENTURY Proposal: The Democracy Project
Early Voting
Work, school, and personal commitments can prevent voters from participating in elections. Early voting would offer residents access to a poll site 12 days leading up to Election Day.
Automatic Voter Registration
The new system would automatically send voters' information to the County Board of Elections, eliminating a potential trip to register at the DMV.
Same-Day Voter Registration
A proven success in other states, allowing citizens to register on Election Day greatly increases participation in the electoral process.
