The Human Resources office of HESC works diligently to understand the current and future needs of the agency in order to deploy a committed and capable workforce. Human Resources works with members of executive leadership to identify workforce needs, which shapes its employee recruitment and selection, skills training and career development functions. Human Resources also cultivates and maintains relationships with labor union representatives and ensures compliance with applicable collective bargaining agreements, labor laws and employment standards. Additionally, Human Resources develops and oversees employee benefits and wellness programs, and informs employees, supervisors and managers on relevant work-related matters.

Intern Responsibilities

The intern will carry out the day-to-day clerical and general functions of the Human Resources Unit of HESC. Duties included:

  • Assist to maintain the unit’s spreadsheets, locations, and availability.
  • Provide general office support Human Resources (HR). Answer HR’s main phone line, greet and guide employees, sort and distribute mail, maintain HR files – electronic and print, adhering to record retention guidelines. Schedule meetings for HR and other staff as needed.
  • Prepare recruitment materials and documents for upcoming events.
  • Maintain inventory of all supplies related to the office and job fairs and other events.
  • Collect and organize resumes and other documents from Indeed and assist with LinkedIn candidate recruitment
  • Maintain the Shared HR Calendar.
  • Organize and maintain recruitment files.
  • Assist with onboarding actives such as creation of Personal History files, printing and organization of onboarding paperwork, orientation activities, etc.
  • Send follow up communications both internally and externally.
  • Assist with various types of correspondence to agency employees, including updates to MyHESC SharePoint site.
  • Assist with managing HR-related mailboxes and incoming mail. Ensure incoming emails are handled and responded to timely. Transfer files and documents as appropriate.
  • Assist with monitoring and tracking of mandatory training requirements, schedule in-person training as needed. Prepare training material and track completed training attestations.

  • Microsoft Office Suite applications such as Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Good organization and attention to detail skills
  • Ability to compose simple email communications
