The Continental Army recruited soldiers who were native-born, immigrants of almost every nationality, and free and enslaved African-Americans. Join us for a glimpse into the life of a soldier from the perspectives of the 1st Rhode Island Regiment, a.k.a. the "Black regiment," and the 5th New York regiment, who fought in the local area, as we approach the 249th anniversary of the start of the American Revolution (April 19, 1775). Historians Duane Jackson & Joe Ryan will highlight the battles of Pine's Bridge, in present day Yorktown, and Fort Montgomery, in Orange County. Get a feel for the reality of the battlefield during their live demonstration of the flintlock musket and rifle. All uniforms and equipment are authentic reproductions. Max: 60 people. Suggested for ages 12+. Cost: $5.
