About the Role

The NYS Digital Service team at the Office of General Services (OGS) seeks a structured and detail-oriented professional to serve as a Data Analyst. The Public Information Specialist 2 will function as the Data Analyst and will be an important contributor to the rollout and implementation of the Universal Data and Analytics Program in New York State.

The Data Analyst will play a pivotal role in transforming data into actionable insights that help drive UX decisions. This position will work closely with leadership to track key performance metrics, refine event tracking, and generate insights that shape strategic decisions.

The ideal candidate should be highly skilled in all aspects of data analytics; including analyzing complex data sets, developing reports, and visualization. This position requires an understanding of data visualization tools, project management, and database design.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and present data summary reports from various sources to various stakeholders that identify trends and patterns in the data providing insights and recommendations.
  • Work with the operations and technical solutions teams to analyze a variety of data sets and to identify areas to improve customer experience and streamline digital journeys.
  • Assists in providing technical and analytic support to end users of analytic applications and solutions.
  • Utilize SQL to create comprehensive reports, automate data processing tasks, and develop interactive dashboards.
  • Ensure data accuracy and completeness.

This position can be Albany or New York City based.


You Bring to NYS Digital Service

  • Expert understanding of Google Analytics and using it to make informed decisions.
  • Experience using digital analytics data (e.g. Google Analytics) in visualizations, digital products, dashboards, static content, or stakeholder presentations.
  • Deep understanding of web development and user experience. Proficiency in core web languages including HTML, CSS, and Javascript.
  • Experience working with data from a variety of sources, including API endpoints, streaming and relational databases.
  • Familiarity with data presentation, mapping, and visualization tools such as Tableau, ESRI suite, PowerBI, and Looker Studio.
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in SQL for querying and data manipulation.
  • Ability to collaborate with others and work within a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working with multiple internal and external stakeholders to understand business needs.
  • Creative thinker with strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in media, new media, English, communications, journalism, broadcasting, public relations, films, TV productions, or digital marketing in writing or AND three years of experience in public or governmental relations, and/or producing content for various media;

OR

A master’s degree in media, new media, English, communications, journalism, broadcasting, public relations, films, TV productions, and digital marketing AND two years of experience in public or governmental relations, and/or in writing or producing content for various media;

OR

Seven years of the experience described above.
