Program Priorities: Environmental Bond Act

Advancing Environmental Justice

Advancing Environmental Justice

New York State is committed to providing funding to the communities that need it most. The Bond Act will advance equity and environmental justice by directing at least 35% with a goal of 40% of total funding towards disadvantaged communities that are often the most impacted by pollution and climate change. This historic investment will create a better New York for future generations.

Mitigating Climate Change

Mitigating Climate Change

Bond Act investments will help municipalities reimagine, redesign, and rebuild with climate resilience to strengthen communities’ abilities to withstand future high-water and storm events, and extreme heat risks, and other long-term environmental changes.

Extreme weather events and storms like Sandy, Lee, Irene, and Ida, cost lives and require billions of dollars to address. These weather events will continue to be more frequent and dramatically worsened by climate change as sea level rise makes storm surge and coastal flooding more intense and weather patterns become more erratic as seen through intense rain, snow, and storm events and extreme heat.

Bond Act funding will advance climate action priorities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, thereby driving critical building, transportation and electrification, and advance the State’s commitment to economy-wide carbon neutrality, consistent with the New York State Climate Act.*

Creating Jobs

Creating Jobs

The Bond Act includes significant labor provisions and will promote job creation by establishing an estimated 84,000 green jobs.*

The Bond Act will help drive investments that support the State's achievement of Climate Act emissions reductions’ goals, which have been shown will ultimately be an opportunity for hundreds of thousands of jobs to be added in the decades ahead.**
