STATEMENT FROM GOVERNOR DAVID A. PATERSON
“I was saddened to learn of the tragic death of Gary Farrell, a New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) employee who was killed this week while at work. Mr. Farrell was struck by a pickup truck as he flagged traffic, protecting his colleagues who performed maintenance on State Route 28 in the Town of Forestport, Oneida County.
“I have directed all State Department of Transportation facilities to lower their flags to half-staff from November 16 – 18, in remembrance of Mr. Farrell and in gratitude for his service. In his three years with NYSDOT, Mr. Farrell had earned the respect and friendship of his colleagues. On behalf of all New Yorkers, my deepest condolences go out to his wife Michelle, and children James, Alexander and Devyn.
“I remind New Yorkers to slow down and remain alert while driving through highway maintenance and construction work zones so that every highway worker can return home to their loved ones.”
