STATEMENT FROM GOVERNOR DAVID A. PATERSON
“It is with great sadness that I learned of the death of Trooper David Lane, a four-year member of the New York State Police who served his community and his State with distinction.
“Trooper Lane was based in Catskill and was a member of Troop F in Middletown. Prior to joining the New York State Police, he served in the U.S. Army’s C Company, 307th Engineer Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division, based in Fort Bragg, N.C., and spent tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan.
“The New York State Police is made up of selfless individuals who made extraordinary decisions to answer the very highest calling there is—to spend their lives in service to others.
“On behalf of all New Yorkers, and with a profound gratitude for his service, I offer condolences to Trooper Lane’s parents, Cheryl and Stephen, his brother, Stephen Lane, Jr., and to his fiancée Kelly Miller. I have directed the flags on all State office buildings be flown at half-staff on Monday, November 9, in remembrance of Trooper Lane. ”
