GOVERNOR PATERSON DIRECTS FLAGS TO BE FLOWN AT HALF-STAFF

Governor David A. Paterson has directed that flags on New York State government buildings be flown at half-staff on Wednesday, November 4, in honor of a New York soldier who died in Afghanistan.

Staff Sergeant Keith Bishop, a Medford resident, died on October 26 of wounds suffered when the MH-47 helicopter he was aboard crashed in Darreh-ye Bum in northwest Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

“On behalf of all New Yorkers, I extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends and fellow soldiers of Staff Sergeant Bishop,” Governor Paterson said. “We mourn his death, but will honor his memory and celebrate his selfless service to our country.”

Governor Paterson has directed the flags on all State buildings to be lowered to half-staff in tribute to the State’s service members who are killed in action or die in a combat zone.
