STATEMENT FROM GOVERNOR DAVID A. PATERSON ON THE CLOSURE OF THE LAKE CHAMPLAIN BRIDGE
“At this time, the Lake Champlain Bridge – also known as the Crown Point Bridge – remains closed and New York State Department of Transportation is designing repairs and developing a timeline for re-opening. This emergency closure was necessary for the safety of those who use the bridge and the action could not be delayed. I want to assure North Country residents that we are working as quickly as possible to re-open the bridge as it is a critical passageway to and from Vermont. However, we will not in any way jeopardize the safety of those who use the bridge and the structural problems must be resolved to ensure that safety. Beginning Monday, several State agencies will be on site to assist local residents and businesses in dealing with the impact of the closure.”
