GOVERNOR PATERSON SIGNS CHILDREN'S PRODUCT SAFETY AND RECALL EFFECTIVENESS ACT OF 2008
Signs Additional Law Authorizing Certified Pharmacists to Administer Immunizing Agents to Adults

Governor David A. Paterson signed a package of bills into law this week to strengthen consumer protections, enhance education for the children of New York State, and improve environment and health care programs.

Among the bills in the package is one of the Governor’s program bills, S.8297-A Fuschillo / A.11316-A Pheffer, which enacts the Children’s Product Safety and Recall Effectiveness Act of 2008. This important piece of legislation will prevent recalled and defective toys and juvenile products from sitting on store shelves and will keep potentially dangerous products out of children’s hands. The new law also provides important information to consumers about recalls and safety warnings.

“We cannot be complacent about protecting our children. This legislation addresses growing concerns that potentially dangerous and recalled toys and products are widely available in stores throughout New York State. With this new law in place, New Yorkers can have a renewed sense of confidence that the products they purchase for their children are safe,” said Governor Paterson. “I applaud my colleagues in the Legislature for working swiftly to address this problem and working together to enact meaningful legislation to ensure the safety of our youngest citizens.”

In addition, the Governor signed into law S.8673 Fuschillo / A.2140-D Paulin, which authorizes pharmacists to administer immunizing agents to adults. This new law makes immunizations by licensed pharmacists more widely accessible to New Yorkers in an effort to improve adult immunization rates in the State.
