GOVERNOR PATERSON ANNOUNCES CONTRACT SETTLEMENT WITH TROOPERS PBA
Four-Year Contract Covers 3,600 Active New York State Troopers and Uniformed Supervisors

Governor David A. Paterson announced a contract agreement has been reached between New York State and the Police Benevolent Association (PBA) of the New York State Troopers. The agreement was reached early Saturday morning and covers 3,600 active PBA members currently serving with the New York State Police.

“All New Yorkers owe a debt of gratitude to the members of the PBA for everything they do to serve the State and protect its residents,” said Governor Paterson. “I am pleased that we now have a settlement. It will allow these union members to continue to provide New York State with the dedicated and selfless service they have always given.”

The four-year contract term is from 2007 to 2011, and includes standard, across-the-board salary increase of 3 percent in the first three years, and 4 percent in the final year. The payment increase percentages in the contract mirror similar agreements New York State has reached with other bargaining units. This agreement also addresses certain benefits, including a program that allows troopers who are injured in the line of duty to continue to serve New York State in a light-duty capacity. The PBA has been without a state contract since March 2007.

PBA President Daniel De Federicis said: “This is a very fair contract and we are pleased with it. We appreciate the fact that Governor Paterson balanced the fiscal needs of the State with the recognition of the difficult and dangerous jobs troopers perform for state residents each and every day.”

The PBA has 6,000 active and retired members. This agreement for active members only includes two contracts, the first covering troopers and the second covering commissioned and non-commissioned officers, including uniformed supervisors with the ranks of Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain and Major.
