STATEMENT FROM GOVERNOR DAVID A. PATERSON
I am pleased that the state Senate approved the property tax cap, a bold step that brings us closer to three-way agreement on a critical piece of legislation that will ease the cost of living in New York. The residents of our state have made it clear they want relief from the crushing burden of local taxes. We will continue to work closely with our partners in the Legislature to control rising property taxes through the passage of a sensible cap. I’d like to thank my colleagues in the Senate, especially Majority Leader Dean Skelos, Minority Leader Malcolm Smith, and, Senators Libous, LaValle, Saland, and DeFrancisco, for their eloquent and gracious comments on the floor about this important issue.
