STATEWIDE TOWN HALL MEETINGS ON ECONOMIC SECURITY COME TO NYC
Governor Paterson Calls on Public Input for Ways to Improve Economic Wellbeing of New Yorkers
Town Hall Meeting has Hit 13 Locations Across New York State—NYC is Final Stop of Tour
Governor David A. Paterson today reminded New Yorkers that his Economic Security Cabinet will hold Town Hall meetings next week in New York City and Long Island. New York City is the final destination on a successful 13-stop tour across the State to discuss economic security in increasingly difficult fiscal times. At each stop on the tour, members of the Cabinet have engaged in spirited discussions with New Yorkers regarding ways to improve their economic security.
“These meetings have given my administration an opportunity to spend time with New Yorkers who are struggling in a difficult economic climate and to share ideas with one another about ways to provide much needed fiscal relief,” said Governor Paterson. “It’s fitting to now wrap up this tour in New York City, the financial epicenter of both our state and our nation. We want to reassure hardworking New Yorkers that we are committed to finding ways to create new jobs and reduce the high cost of living.”
The cabinet has four clear-cut objectives: To reduce New York’s high cost of living; establish education and workforce development opportunities for a highly competitive economy; strengthen the social safety net for low-income New Yorkers; and bring jobs into our communities.
The Economic Security Cabinet is comprised of 20 state agencies and was established not only to implement this agenda but to focus on the very real needs of working families, with the goal of strengthening and growing the middle class.
The meetings have provided an opportunity for the public to hear about the State’s commitment to protecting and enhancing economic security for New York families. Suggestions from employers, labor representatives, researchers, advocates, and the general public are a vital part of this effort, and interested individuals have provided written submissions and/or three minutes of in-person testimony.
The upcoming meetings in New York City and Long Island will begin promptly at 4 p.m. and end at 7 p.m. They will be held as follows:
