SPITZER ON NEW PROGRAM FOR DRIVERS LICENSES
Governor Eliot Spitzer today issued the following statement regarding the proposal New York State has worked out with the Federal Department of Homeland Security.
"The plan the Department of Homeland Security has endorsed is a secure, practical and workable solution to our pressing safety and security concerns. Our program which the nation’s Homeland Security Chief called “among the most secure in the country” will enhance New Yorkers’ safety and security, address practically the problems caused by Washington’s failed immigration policy, and accommodate the airline travel mandates the federal government will impose on us in the coming years.
The comprehensive plan we have developed makes our state more secure by bringing more people into the system and provides the greatest number of people with the greatest amount of security possible. As Governor, that is my number one priority."
The new system provides New Yorkers with the option of three secure licenses that will offer New Yorkers maximum choices for drivers’ licenses, uphold the strictest security standards, and ensure the economic vitality of Upstate New York.
