STATEMENT FROM GOVERNOR ELIOT SPITZER AND LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR DAVID PATERSON ON THE TRAGEDY AT NORTHERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY

We were deeply saddened by the news of the shootings at the Northern Illinois University. On behalf of all New Yorkers, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the students, faculty, staff and families who were touched by this unspeakably tragedy. Senseless acts of violence on our nation's university campuses are particularly troubling because they occur at centers of learning, opportunity and inspiration where students should feel safe and be free to focus on their bright futures. The State of New York shares the grief of Illinois and the nation.
