STATE OF NEW YORK
EXECUTIVE CHAMBER
Proclamation
Whereas, New York State has a long and proud tradition of promoting the well-being of its children, families and communities, as each individual’s contributions collectively give rise to a stronger State and Nation; and
Whereas, all children deserve the care and nurturing that will help them reach their full potential and our State is committed to providing the means by which this goal can be attained; and
Whereas, child care providers share with parents the critical role of early teacher, role model and nurturer; quality day care and after-school programs encourage the positive development of youth and at the same time give parents a greater sense of security while they are at work; and
Whereas, child care has been a critical component in helping historically high numbers of families escape from a cycle of welfare dependence, whereby subsidized child care has increased and this State continues to demonstrate an unwavering commitment to making dramatic improvements in day care safety and accessibility; and
Whereas, New York State will never stop moving forward or continue working to develop progressive measures that help provide nurturing child care to all working parents; and
Whereas, through the dedicated efforts of trained child care providers, this valuable service benefits many families in communities throughout New York State, and it is fitting to support the worthy goals of this observance and acknowledge the exceptional services provided by individuals working in the field of child care;
Now, Therefore, I, David A. Paterson, Governor of the State of New York, do hereby proclaim May 9, 2008 as PROVIDER APPRECIATION DAY in the Empire State.
G i v e n under my hand and the Privy Seal of the State at the Capitol in the City of Albany this second day of May in the year two thousand eight.
