EXECUTIVE CHAMBER
Proclamation
Whereas, the citizens of the Empire State place a great value upon the well-being of the senior population, and ensuring the best health and care for our cherished elderly is one of the top priorities in this State and Nation; and
Whereas, New York State is committed to providing elderly persons with quality, compassionate long-term care services that maintain their dignity and highest standard of living; and
Whereas, nursing facilities offer supportive services that meet the unique personal needs of our older citizens and they advance a mission of responsibility for them – a responsibility that we all share – by helping them live well and age well; and
Whereas, we salute our citizens now residing in nursing facilities and recognize the immeasurable contributions they have made to our society as a truly respected generation that built the communities of this great state and nation into thriving centers of life; and
Whereas, in accordance with National Nursing Home Week, the New York State Health Facilities Association is sponsoring a week of activities beginning on Mothers Day, May 11, 2008, during which its members celebrate the theme “Love is Ageless,” aptly reflecting the unlimited warmth and affection we have for our seniors; and
Whereas, all New Yorkers recognize the valuable services provided by nursing facilities that ensure our elderly receive the highest quality of care, and this observance offers the opportunity to join in a celebration of the senior population – a wonderful source of knowledge and experience from which we can all learn;
Now, Therefore, I, David A. Paterson, Governor of the State of New York, do hereby proclaim May 11 17, 2008 as NURSING HOME WEEK in the Empire State.
