Proclamation


Whereas, New Yorkers appreciate those dedicated individuals who help maintain the overall excellence of our State's system of medical care and recognize the contributions of medical assistants – skilled professionals who perform administrative and clinical tasks that enable the offices and clinics of physicians to operate smoothly; and

Whereas, the annual observance of Medical Assistants Week provides the opportunity to acknowledge the crucial work carried out by medical assistants who can be found in doctors’ offices, outpatient clinics, ambulatory care facilities and many other health-related settings; and

Whereas, medical assistants serve in various capacities as receptionists, bookkeepers, billing clerks, clinical assistants, technicians and office managers, and their work is a vital component in the delivery of quality healthcare in the Empire State and this Nation; and

Whereas, medical assistants further serve the needs patients by helping to explain physicians’ instructions while respecting the confidential nature of medical information and by providing a courteous and reassuring atmosphere which increases the patient’s level of comfort; and

Whereas, the New York State Society of Medical Assistants, Inc. serves the interests of the medical assistant population and continually strives to upgrade standards of practice, improve patient care, and furthermore seeks to raise public awareness and appreciation for members of this profession and their vital role within the greater healthcare community; and

Whereas, during the 49th Annual Convention hosted by the New York State Society of Medical Assistants and bring held in Corning, New York, multi-skilled healthcare professionals from across the Empire State and beyond will gather as a group united in principle and purpose, working toward a common goal of ensuring the most efficient and more effective healthcare delivery system for the greater American public, and it is fitting for all New Yorkers to take this opportunity to recognize the diverse and important contributions that so many capable, qualified, and conscientious medical assistants make to the people of our State and Nation;

Now, Therefore, I, David A. Paterson, Governor of the State of New York, do hereby proclaim April 21-27, 2008 as MEDICAL ASSISTANTS WEEK in the Empire State.
