EXECUTIVE CHAMBER 
Proclamation


Whereas, all New Yorkers appreciate the benefits of a system of State government and public services that strives to be innovative and accountable, and as one of this Nation’s largest and most respected organizations comprised of dedicated professionals who work with integrity to meet the extensive needs of a diverse population, we join in recognizing those individuals employed in public service who show proficiency as leaders and who work to improve the quality of life in communities across this State; and

Whereas, the New York State Leadership and Accountability Conference is a meeting of public leaders and members of senior level management in New York State government that provides an opportune time to examine methods to successfully lead organizations so as to foster innovation, integrity and accountability; and

Whereas, in light of growing public needs and a rapidly changing world, government managers at all levels are challenged to make tough decisions, and strong leadership is needed to support this Administration’s effort to increase the level of trust and confidence New York State citizens have in their government; and

Whereas, government leaders are encouraged to focus their efforts on making prudent and long-term decisions that have positive and measurable effects on future generations of New Yorkers, always in a manner that is honest, decent and ethical; and

Whereas, the Division of the Budget, the Governor's Office of Employee Relations, the Office of Public Integrity, the State Inspector General’s Office, the State Commission of Investigation, the Office of the State Comptroller, who sponsor the Leadership and Accountability Conference, in addition to all other New York State agencies, take seriously the challenges we face, and are taking the steps necessary to ensure success; and

Whereas, we wish to acknowledge all individuals employed in public service who show proficiency as leaders and work to meet the highest ethical standards and to enhance accountability of New York State government, it is fitting that they are given special recognition for their commitment to the public good of New York State;

Now, Therefore, I, David A. Paterson, Governor of the State of New York, do hereby proclaim May 8, 2008 as LEADERSHIP AND ACCOUNTABILITY DAY in the Empire State.
