STATE OF NEW YORK
EXECUTIVE CHAMBER
Proclamation

Whereas, each year, communities throughout New York State and the entire nation participate in “Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work Day” – a program of positive development that helps youth become more confident and aware of their future career opportunities; and

Whereas, designated as April 24, 2008, this year's initiative finds many youngsters and adolescents thinking about their own potential for contributing to our world while they spend a day accompanying their mothers, fathers, and other relatives to the workplace, as it becomes a classroom of experience for the day; and

Whereas, originally established in 1993 as a way to build self-esteem and confidence among girls, “Take Your Daughters To Work Day” has since evolved to include both girls and boys who are offered a first-hand view of the workplace that will inspire them to pursue their educational goals and fulfill their career aspirations; and

Whereas, celebrating the theme of “Making Choices for a Better World,” this year’s observance welcomes all youth to consider their future roles in the workplace and the world, and how they can make positive changes by having their own unique impact and by implementing ideas that will help them shape their work, home, and community lives; and

Whereas, contributing to activities held on this day are many public and private entities that provide a venue for youth to voice their questions and interests about career choices, and the adults who participate can be proud of the potentially significant influence they will have on a child by helping her or him decide the right course in life; and

Whereas, the coordinated efforts of many people throughout our great State help make this day a success as we all share the responsibility of guiding children through times of both strength and vulnerability, and investing in young lives is wise for our communities and our futures; and

Whereas, it is fitting that all New Yorkers support this educational campaign as organizations, businesses, parents, counselors, mentors and schools work together in an expression of care and commitment to our youth;

Now, Therefore, I, David A. Paterson, Governor of the State of New York, do hereby proclaim April 24, 2008 as TAKE OUR DAUGHTERS AND SONS TO WORK DAY in the Empire State.

G i v e n under my hand and the Privy Seal of the State at the Capitol in the City of Albany this tenth day of April in the year two thousand eight.
