Proclamation

Whereas, within many regions of the Empire State, the establishment of institutions that enhance economic growth and development are invaluable, and the Chamber of Commerce represents an example of such an institution that is key to the well-being of local businesses which have a direct, positive impact upon the communities they serve; and

Whereas, celebrating its 100 years of service to the Hudson Valley region this year, the Poughkeepsie Area Chamber of Commerce has been successful thanks to the efforts of many hard-working and resourceful individuals who are dedicated to advancing the economic interests of their communities and the economy of our State as a whole; and

Whereas, born from the merger of a Board of Trade and a Retail Merchants' Association on November 20, 1907, the Poughkeepsie Area Chamber of Commerce was founded by individuals who had a desire to enhance life in the community and who did so by developing ways to assist local businesses, encouraging commercial and economic growth, promoting tourism, and improving the quality of life throughout the region; and

Whereas, today the Chamber continues to work toward these original objectives, and in the years since its founding, has undertaken many other endeavors to improve the business environment and overall quality of life for citizens throughout the Hudson Valley and its many wonderful communities; and

Whereas, having been successful in furthering the growth of commerce and trade, the Poughkeepsie Area Chamber of Commerce is to be commended for its great determination in serving large and small businesses and in helping them achieve goals for growth and expansion; it is in the same manner and with equal vigor that New York State will work to renew its legacy of prosperity and worldwide economic leadership; and

Whereas, businesses in the region continue to welcome initiatives lead by the Poughkeepsie Area Chamber of Commerce that promote the exchange of ideas and information, foster communication, strengthen positive relationships among local and statewide business communities, and examine ways to promote commerce in this 21st century; and

Whereas, it is fitting that New York State recognizes such an important milestone in the history of the Poughkeepsie Area Chamber of Commerce, as its members host this birthday breakfast and celebrate with other appropriate festivities, and they can certainly be proud of their role in proliferating the spirit of entrepreneurship upon which our great State is founded;

Now, Therefore, I, Eliot Spitzer, Governor of the State of New York, do hereby confer this Citation in honor of The Centennial Anniversary Of The Poughkeepsie Area Chamber Of Commerce with best wishes for continued success to its members as they celebrate this 100th Anniversary of valuable service.

Eliot Spitzer, Governor

Richard Baum, Secretary to the Governor
