Proclamation
Whereas, New York State is dedicated to making this a better world for its many children and families, and works to ensure the very best quality of life for all of our youth; and
Whereas, recognizing that children benefit from being raised in a supportive, nurturing family environment, New York State supports initiatives that encourage their growth into healthy, productive adults and leaders of tomorrow; and
Whereas, New York is blessed with a multitude of families that constitute a loving, supportive and caring network of people - and an essential part of our cultural, social and spiritual fabric - as strong families help build strong communities; and
Whereas, all citizens, as well as public and private institutions, serve a valuable role in making the Empire State a great place to raise a family - including government, neighborhood and faith-based organizations, businesses and human service agencies, and of course, families themselves; and
Whereas, with the assistance and resources of community-based agencies and organizations, we can help families of all shapes and sizes create a better future for all of New York; and
Whereas, as we reflect on the many reasons we have to be grateful during the Thanksgiving season, it is appropriate to take time to honor the importance of families, and recognize the special connections and enduring bonds that support and strengthen the entire family of humankind throughout the year;
Now, Therefore, I, Eliot Spitzer, Governor of the State of New York, do hereby proclaim November 18-24, 2007 as Family Week in the Empire State.
G i v e n under my hand and the Privy Seal of the State at the Capitol in the City of Albany this second day of November in the year two thousand seven.
Eliot Spitzer, Governor
