DEPUTY SECRETARY FOR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND INFRASTRUCTURE - TIMOTHY J. GILCHRIST

Governor Eliot Spitzer and Lieutenant Governor David Paterson today
announced the appointment of Timothy J. Gilchrist to serve as Deputy
Secretary for Economic Development and Infrastructure.
As Deputy Secretary for Economic Development and Infrastructure, Mr.
Gilchrist will oversee the major economic development, infrastructure and
transportation agencies and authorities in the state.
“Tim’s extensive policy background in transportation infrastructure makes
him an excellent choice for this pivotal role,” said Governor Spitzer. “He
thoroughly understands the state’s infrastructure network, its specific
challenges and the investments that must be made to support future economic
development.”
Mr. Gilchrist has served in the New York State Department of Transportation
for over 25 years. Most recently, he was Chief of Transportation Strategy,
where he provided leadership for coordinated, multimodal state
transportation policies, plans, and strategies. In this position, he also
supervised financial planning efforts for the Department, including the
allocation of resources to regional offices and the management of public
transportation operations and finances. From 2005 to 2006, Mr. Gilchrist
served as Director of Downstate Transportation Strategy. Prior to that, he
was Director of Planning and Strategy, where he served as the Department’s
lead executive on border issues and was responsible for working with the
Lower Manhattan Development Corporation, Port Authority, and MTA on
transportation plans for the redevelopment of Lower Manhattan.
While at the Department of Transportation, Mr. Gilchrist also served as
Director of the Passenger Transportation Division, Director of the Transit
Division, Assistant to the Commissioner and as Director of the
Transportation Budgeting Bureau. Mr. Gilchrist earned his B.A. from the
State University of New York at Oswego and his M.A. from Harvard
University.
As Deputy Secretary for Economic Development and Infrastructure, Mr. Gilchrist's salary will be $155,000. This appointment does not require Senate confirmation.
