Metropolitan Planning Area (MPA) Boundaries
The MPO planning area boundaries are established by each local MPO according to the federal metropolitan planning regulations. The complete text of the applicable section of FHWA/FTA’s metropolitan transportation planning regulation is provided in (23cfr_section_450_308.pdf) .
The MPA is intended to include at a minimum the approved FHWA Urban Area Boundary 2000 FHWA - Federal Aid urbanized Area Boundaries, plus the adjacent area that the MPO anticipates may become urbanized (MPO MPA Map and description: MPA_2000.pdf during the life of the 20 year timeframe of the regional long range transportation plan. Areas classified non attainment for air quality must include the boundary of the EPA’s designated non attainment area in the MPA.
